DIVE Northampton Dive Club Kit - FAQs
We are always being asked when Club Kit can be collected and dropped off by Members wishing to use it. As a result, we have produced a Club Kit FAQ page.
What are the kit charges?
Can Club Kit be booked in advance?
Sorry but no – Club Kit is available on a first come, first served basis when you come in to collect it. This ensures that as much kit as possible is available for when it is needed.
When can I collect kit?
Kit can be collected at any time during our regular opening hours. This ensures that any kit dropped off the day before can be checked and returned to stock and that any kit needed for the following day can be allocated.
Can I collect kit a day or two in advance?
Yes... Generally, kit is collected the day before you intend to use it. That way we ensure as much kit is available as possible for all Members and that you still have time to check your kit before you intend to use it. If we are closed that day or you need to pop in during a lunch break, feel free to come in a day or two before and collect your kit. If travel arrangements or work commitments make this difficult, kit can be collected even earlier by prior arrangement but this cannot be guaranteed. When you take kit, you will be expected to sign it out in the Kit Log Book.
When can I return kit?
Kit should be returned as soon as possible after it has been used and at a maximum within 48 hours unless by prior arrangement. You must sign the kit back in to the Kit Log Book when you return it. When using the kit at Stoney Cove, if the Club Van is also there, it is possible to let us have the kit back at the Cove but you must give us a note of the kit being returned so that it can be signed back in. Alternatively, kit can be dropped back at the shop at any point during our usual opening hours.
Can I take my Club Kit on Holiday?
Club Membership covers the use of Club Kit on a daily basis. If you are away on holiday, whether in the UK or abroad, Club Kit can still be taken but a surcharge will be payable. As a general rule, we charge a flat rate of £50 for holiday use, to a maximum of 2 weeks away. With Kit Hire on holiday costing up to £20 per day, this can save you money and means you have use of kit you know.
How do I make sure the kit is working?
We do our best to check all of the kit when it goes back in to stock but mistakes sometimes happen. It is therefore essential that you check all of the kit before you leave the shop. As you are responsible for damage to the kit, it is important that you are happy with the condition of all of the kit before you take and use it. We have over 100 cylinders and 50 Dry Suits in the Club and these sometimes get damaged or go out of Test. We can sort this out before you leave but not later. When you sign the kit out in the Kit Log Book, you are confirming that it is in an acceptable condition.
What happens if the Kit is Damaged or Lost/Stolen?
You are responsible for looking after the kit at all times. If it is damaged, lost or stolen, you will be responsible for the Trade cost of repair or replacement – in other words, we will charge you what it costs us. Some elements like wrist or neck seals are subject to wear and tear. If a seal is ripped, we will inspect the seal. If it is generally old and near the end of its working life, we won’t charge for the replacement. If it is new, you will pay the full cost. When part used, we will apportion the cost on a pro-rata basis. When taking kit on holiday, it is strongly recommended that you ensure that the kit is covered on your travel insurance.
What kit do I need?
It is up to you to know what kit you need to take. Although we hold some records of kit used during training, this may not be up to date. With over 50 Dry Suits, we cannot run through the whole range of suits every time you come in for kit. It is therefore important that you retain a current record of you kit requirements for when you come in.
Can I collect kit for someone else?
Provided that you know exactly what kit they need, this is fine. You should however be prepared for a situation where their chosen Dry Suit is already out in use. For this reason, we strongly recommend that people come in themselves for kit. That way, alternative suits can be tried on and checked for fit.
What kit is available?
As a rule, the following kit is available:
What if I want Nitrox?
As a Club Member, we will supply discounted Nitrox on request. Please give us 24 hours notice so we can get the gas mixed. We do hold a small supply of 32% fills if you decide you want one at the last minute.
