Stress and Rescue

Stress and Rescue Course with DIVE Northampton

Rewarding and fun – that best describes the Stress and Rescue Diving program. This course will expand your knowledge and experience level. Divers with this training learn to look beyond themselves and consider the safety and well being of other divers. Although this course is serious, it is an enjoyable way to build your confidence. Stress is a major cause of diving accidents and negatively impacts rescue situations. This program teaches you the skills and knowledge required to recognize and deal with stress, prevent accidents and properly deal with emergency situations encountered by divers.

- What do I need to start?

You can enrol in the Stress and Rescue Course as a certified Open Water Diver (or have a qualifying certification from another training organization).
Minimum age: 12 years old
Successful completion of a sanctioned CPR program within the past 24 months. The First Aid training we offer meets these requirements:  Primary Care (CPR) and Secondary Care (First Aid) courses with AED.

- What will I do?

Rescue Diver training will prepare you to prevent problems and, if necessary, manage dive emergencies. During the five open water sessions, you'll cover:

  • Self-rescue and diver stress
  • AED and emergency oxygen delivery systems
  • dive first aid
  • swimming and non-swimming rescue techniques
  • emergency management and equipment
  • panicked diver response
  • underwater problems
  • missing diver procedures
  • surfacing the unconscious diver
  • in-water rescue breathing protocols
  • egress (exits)
  • first aid procedures for pressure related accidents
  • dive accident scenarios

- How long will it take?

These Courses can be undertaken separately or for anyone looking to complete their Rescue Course, all 3 elements should be completed, one of which is optional but highly recommended.

CPR & First Aid Course with Automated External Defibrillator. This is compulsory unless you have an alternative, current, CPR certification and takes 1 full training day in the classroom. This day can also be used as a refresher course for existing first-aiders.

Oxygen Administration. This is optional and requires 1 full classroom day. We normally combine additional scenario elements of the EFR First Aid Course with and the optional Oxygen Administration course into 1 full day of training. This allows us to integrate Oxygen use into the practice scenarios.

Rescue Course. 1 Full academic day followed by at least 4 pool sessions and 1 day of Open Water training.
